What is Crossrail in shaper machine?
Andrew Thornton What is Crossrail in shaper machine?
The cross rail is a horizontal member that travels vertically on the ways of the column to be adjusted, and clamps in place in the desired position. The cross rail supports the table on precision ways. The table supports the workpiece and feeds along the cross rail.
What is the purpose of shaper machine?
The shaper machine is a reciprocating type of machine basically used for producing the horizontal, vertical or flat surfaces. The shaper holds the single point cutting tool in ram and workpiece is fixed in the table.

What is the difference between shaper and planer?
The shaper is a mobile cutter, the workpiece is moved to perform the cutting process, a shaper is a light-duty machine, the shaper just can use only one cutting tool at a time; however the planer is different, it is a fixed planer that moves the workpiece closer to the planer for cutting, a planer is a heavy-duty …
Which stroke is ideal stroke in shaper?
Which stroke is idle stroke in shaper? Explanation: Return stroke is idle stroke in shaper because no useful work is done in this stroke. 9. No useful work is done in forward stroke in shaper.
Which stroke of the shaper is faster?
Linkage of Shaper The cutting stroke takes more time than the return stroke by means of mechanisms. Due to the result of quick return mechanism a more powerful cutting takes in forward stroke and tool rubbing action eliminated by return stroke.
How many types of shaping machines are there?
Various types of shaping machines are classified into four such as motion type (driving mechanism), ram travel, table design, and the type of cutting stroke: Types of shaper machine base on driving mechanism: Crank type e.g. quick return motion mechanism. Geared shaper type.
What are limitation of shaping machine?
Disadvantages of Shaper Machine: The cutting speed is low in the case of shaper. Only one cutting tool is used in this machine and there is no space for the installation of another tool. It can shape change only one workpiece at a time. Applicable only for those workpieces(stock) whose length is more than 25cms.
How many types of shaper machines are there?
Who invented shaper machine?
Samuel Bentham
History. Samuel Bentham developed a shaper between 1791 and 1793. However, Roe (1916) credits James Nasmyth with the invention of the shaper in 1836. Shapers were very common in industrial production from the mid-19th century through the mid-20th.
Which is better planer or shaper machine?
Shaper can employ light cuts and finer feed. Planer can employ heavier cuts and coarse feed. Shaper uses one cutting tool at a time. Due to better rigidity of planer machine, compared to that of a shaper, planer can give more accuracy on machined surfaces.
What are the types of shaper machine?
There are nine different types of Shaper Machine:
- Standard Shaper.
- Vertical Shaper.
- Horizontal Shaper.
- Geared Shaper.
- Universal Shaper.
- Crank Shaper.
- Draw cut Shaper.
- Hydraulic Shaper and.
