What is the GIRFEC approach?
Getting it right for every child (GIRFEC) is the Scottish Government’s approach to supporting children and young people. It is intended as a framework that will allow organisations who work on behalf of the country’s children and their families to provide a consistent, supportive approach for all.

Why was GIRFEC introduced?
GIRFEC was introduced by the Scottish Government in 2006 as it was widely recognised that services needed to work together and that children and parents needed one clear point of contact to ensure that the right help is offered at the right time.

To ensure everyone has a common understanding of what wellbeing means, the Scottish Government has described wellbeing in terms of eight indicators, which are Safe, Healthy, Achieving, Nurtured, Active, Respected, Responsible and Included.
